As far as I can remember, I’ve always drew eyes and mouth. Often only one of them. Oh, I tried to put them together, but I didn’t like the result that much. I think I can find them on any book, moleskine or diary I had since… 14 years old? So it’s not a surprise that this theme has came out in most of my artistic photographic montage. I don’t know if it’s an obsession, but I can’t do otherwise. I like really simple lines and patterns. I like to concentrate myself to one subject at a time. Since a mouth or an eye have such beautiful lines, I think it’s a great fit.

A year ago, I came to Cambridge. Only for a week-end. I saw the Strata Center and walk around Boston and a little in the MIT Campus. Well I’m back again.
I thought I might look at Harvard campus this time and try to find some nice art galleries. Part of this process is to continue my personal “art studies” which I felt I set aside since Paris. I’ve been experimenting but it’s good to go back to the basis. I’m not looking for great “masters” of art, but to be touch again and to understand new things.
So I went to the Carpenter Center of art in the Harvard Campus which is the only Le Corbusier building in the US..(!!). Well besides the fact that the concrete of the building made great pictures, I wasn’t very impressed by the design. I found an interesting exhibition of senior thesis students in the lobby though. Some of them are extremely original or complete weirdo. I guess that’s what makes art special. I haven’t note anything special in there.
I then went just beside this building which is the Fog Art Museum. Basically, a Harvard own museum. What I note there :
Y’a quelque hose de personnel dans la peinture. L’artiste mis à nu. Chaque tache de peinture est un geste relié à l’artiste. Quiconque regarde les détails d’une oeuvre peut s’imaginer l’artiste devant sa toile au moment même où il appliquait la couleur. Je me demande comment atteindre ce niveau intime avec l’art numérique?
Autre pensée : Beaucoup d’artistes atteignent leur style vers la trentaine, même si les années avant démontrent un talent, l’apogée c’est reconnaître la personne à travers son art.

David Lynch says that the artist doesn’t have to suffer to create. There is nothing edgy about it. The artist has to understand and be conscious about suffering to be able to create. I often read about artists and their circle of friends and relatives all related to art (litterature, music, art, poetry, film…) and how together they created new art movement. I recently started a book about the life and work of Pablo Picasso. He was surrounded by artist of all fields but going into the same direction (here cubism). His circle was his inspiration and the reflection of the time he lived in.
I thought it was something missing from my life. Oh, I have friends working in several art fields, but not everyday, not enough discussing about it and the way it’s going. I’m not that much into the art gang. But I made a connection between the café Le lapin agile where Picasso spent most of his time and the internet. The web is such an international art community, it’s so complete. I think I feel more a part of the design slash art web community. I guess it’s now the way modernity is working…

I’m thrilled. I’ve got helped today to install my artwork for my next exhibition in 2 weeks. I must say it looks pretty good. And also, taking pictures of the process reminded me how much the place inspired the work I did without knowing. The light, the windows, and the place in the gallery where my art will be is just perfect with the creation I did. It’s surely helped me come up with a name for my two pieces. I must say that going into a more abstract road is easier to find the good name for the creation I did. I always had a hard time finding the good words to represent what I did. But I feel that abstract art gives me the opportunity to find a lot of things that fit. It’s not just something you recognize, it can be a thousand things…

Mes oeuvres sont créées de façon numérique. Photo numérique + traitement numérique. Je ne suis pas très manuelle… C’en est au point au des fois j’avais ce syndrome de l’imposteur puisque je sentais que j’étais une artiste qui ne mettait pas la main à la pâte.
Il faut juste voir autrement et plutôt me dire que l’oeuvre sort de ma tête et que la création commence et se forme principalement d’associations visuelles qui se créent en moi avant même d’atteindre l’extérieur.
J’en suis venue un peu à cette conclusion ce matin puisque tout excitée, je suis partie chez mon imprimeur aller chercher mes 2 oeuvres pour mon expo du 1er mars prochain. Et je me disais que mon feeling devait un peu ressembler à celui de certains sculpteurs. Souvent, le sculpteur fait une maquette, un moule, un petit format de ce qu’il voudra être coulé en je-ne-sais-quel matériau… Ma surprise est la même. Je ne vois l’oeuvre finale que beaucoup plus tard que sa création.

Dans le contexte plus professionnel des demandes d’expositions dans des galeries, on nous demande un document explicatif sur notre démarche artistique. D’où ma citation de Fernando Botero il y a quelques jours à laquelle je me suis associée rapidement : l’artiste est déjà dirigé spontanément dans une direction, un sens, un style graphique avant même de le comprendre, plus tard, il finira par l’analyser. Cette étape d’analyse, je la perfectionne depuis maintenant quelques années. J’ai décidé de partager ma démarche puisqu’elle explique bien l’art que je crée et l’artiste derrière l’oeuvre. Ce texte fera partie intégrante de ma bio d’artiste.

Mon approche artistique rejoint les théories du mouvement expressionnisme abstrait sur la retranscription des émotions par les formes et les couleurs et par la volonté d’utiliser la toile comme un endroit pour agir et réagir au lieu de reproduire. Par contre, l’asbtraction dans mes oeuvres ne sera jamais totale. À la manière d’un collage, ma matière première est la photographie et donc une reproduction de la réalité. Bien que le sujet passe en second plan une fois la création entamée, il ne disparaît jamais et reste toujours la source de l’oeuvre.
Ce qui m’attire et m’inspire, ce sont l’originalité de certaines formes et la vivacité de plusieurs couleurs, détails anodins qui peuvent souvent échapper à notre regard trompé par l’habitude. Plus qu’un lieu ou un objet, mes sujets reflètent un moment suspendu. À partir d’un détail, j’ajoute textures, couleurs, lumières, recomposant l’expérience du quotidien, le transformant et accentuant son invraisemblable beauté, soudain redécouverte. Je crée pour qu’on se souvienne que les images qui m’ont interpellée deviennent un tout, absolu et atemporel.
Mes premières créations artistiques diffusées sur le Web sont interactives, immersives et non-linéaires. J’ai aussi exploré le monde des installations pour ensuite me dédier, au cours des six dernières années, à des collages photographiques traitées numériquement.

This one is lovely in big. The texture of the grain is similar to a realy old photography.Maybe there is something I don’t find “artsy” with really sharp HD style images. They are too real to create art with. I need pictures “avec du caractère”. That’s what inspires me. The crispiness of high definition new standard is for real subject: documentaries, TV, news, etc.It’s not that I like blurry pictures, au contraire. I guess it depends of what I will do with the images after. Will it be a texture for a new creation, or the subject of a new serie. I also sometimes “crap” a picture to change the reality and create a myth. Yeah. I like that….
