Beyond the Surface brings together the work of Claudia Arcia (Venezuela), Roxana Brongo (Uruguay-Canada), Silvia Lopez Chavez (Dominican Republic), Monica Martinez (Mexico), and Claudia Quigua (Colombia). These artists have a unique relationship with new media, digital photography, video production, and mixed media. Their individual processes heavily influenced by design practices, help them create new landscapes and fantastic worlds to explore the meaning of transformative human emotions. Individually, each artist present spaces for action and reaction, while marrying the lines between dueling impulses, creating hybrid realities and objects with passion. Collectively, they search to fill the voids in the intimate conversations in society about art and the female Latin American artist.

Totally forgot to blog about Glowlab Gallery in New York City I visited last week-end. The exhibition I saw there is now finished but you can take a look at their web site for more info about the artist: Mark Price, a young emergent artist from Philadelphia. More than a great show and great art was the welcoming attitude of the 2 lovely ladies who work there. It’s a must-see.

What’s new after 6 months in Boston? I’m starting slowly to know the design/art market better. I finally settle for a small non-profit contemporary art gallery in South Boston. I work at Proof Gallery as a Gallery Assistant. I always liked small galleries but got so much involved in the design world in Montreal that the only thing related to art I did was some production and trying to get myself in some art shows. I’ve got a hard time starting into the art world. Struggling with myself and with a world I didn’t know. I still have a lot to learn but I’m happy to now have a foot into this milieu. I’m aslo thankful to have been able to take a break of my work to try this.
