Van Gogh and Japan

2006/10/28

Roxana Brongo, photographer

In the same time Van Gogh was alive, Japan opened his doors to the rest of the world. Japanese art began to be more and more popular. And Van Gogh was influence by that art. In Arles he was feeling himself like being in Japan. In Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam there is a new section designed by Kisho Kurokawa. In this building, you can find japanese art done in the late 19th century and that’s what Van Gogh used as inspiration.

Well… it’s funny. It seems like I can’t stop finding relations between my path and his. I love japan modern art, and I think in some ways my work is influenced by it. My trip to Japan last spring shows how much I like this culture.
